Prof. Valerio Carelli

University of Bologna / IRCCS Istituto delle Scienze Neurologiche di Bologna

Full Professor of Medical Genetics at the University of Bologna and Director of the Program in Neurogenetics at the IRCCS Institute of Neurological Sciences of Bologna. One of the most prominent European researchers on LHON and mitochondrial neurology. Author of the 2022 Lancet Neurology review on hereditary optic neuropathies. Relevant project findings

Prof. Carelli’s institutional page publicly lists his email (valerio.carelli@unibo.it). His laboratory is a natural European counterpart to Neurophth and Seoul National’s gene-editing work, with deep expertise in LHON molecular pathogenesis.

Potential connection opportunities: his neurogenetics program could benefit from direct comparison with Asian gene therapy cohorts (Neurophth’s GOLD trial).
